LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday took notice of non-functional elevators at the Services Hospital and directed a private company, which installed the facility, to immediately make all the elevators operative.

The chief justice also summoned the chief executive officer of the company along with the compliance report on Aug 29.

Punjab Health Secretary Saqib Zafar, Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Principal Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz and Services Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Ameer were already present in the court when Chief Justice Nisar took up the matter at Lahore registry.

Summons CEO of private hospital

Prof Ayaz told the chief justice that patients had been facing severe problems due to non-functioning of the elevators at the hospital.

Young Doctors Association’s representative Dr Salman Kazmi pointed out that the same company installed elevators at Mayo Hospital as well and they were also not in working condition.

Expressing serious concern over the situation, the chief justice suggested to refer the matter to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for a thorough probe.

When asked about the company’s head, its lawyer told the chief justice that the CEO of the lift supplying company had gone to perform Haj and would return on Aug 27.

Chief Justice Nisar directed the lawyer to convey the court’s concern to the company’s head and get all the elevators functional. He also directed the company’s head to appear in his chamber on Aug 29 along with the compliance report.

The chief justice further directed a provincial law officer to come up with details regarding performance of the elevators installed by the company in other hospitals as well.

PRIVATE HOSPITAL: The chief justice summoned the CEO of a private hospital to explain death of a woman during delivery.

Citizen Mian Mujahid filed a complaint to the chief justice and submitted that his daughter gave birth to a baby boy with normal delivery at the hospital. He alleged that the doctors later took his daughter to the operating theatre without disclosing any reason. He said the doctors kept his daughter in the theatre for 20 hours before she died.

The applicant alleged that his daughter lost her life due to the negligence of the doctors. He sought action against the doctors and the hospital’s management.

Chief Justice Nisar summoned the hospital CEO and all lady doctors who conducted operation of the applicant’s daughter.
