Football foundation donates Rs1.2m to dam fund
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has handed over a cheque of Rs1.2 million as donation to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s Diamer-Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund.
A delegation of PFF, headed by its vice-president Sardar Naveed Haider, along with the football team called on Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday and presented the cheque.
According to a press release, the delegation informed the CJP that the football team had won the amount as prize in the South Asia Football Federation Cup held in Bangladesh and the team and PFF unanimously decided to donate it to the dam fund. Their gesture was appreciated by Justice Nisar.
Meanwhile, former SC judge and National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) chairman retired Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan also met the Chief Justice on Wednesday to donate for the dam fund.
According to the press release, Mr Jan presented a cheque for Rs200,000 to the CJP as donation for construction of the Diamer-Bhasha dam.
On Tuesday, the court had expressed its appreciation for the donations made to the dams fund while issuing a detailed verdict in a case pertaining to the acute water scarcity in Pakistan. In the order penned by the CJP himself, he stated that they were “overwhelmed by the huge public response in the form of generous donations for this national cause and the nation’s confidence reposed in and respect extended to the Supreme Court of Pakistan”.
“To safeguard the trust reposed by the public in the fund, it is directed that the contribution(s) thereto shall enjoy tax free status,” the verdict stated as a reminder to the people to continue to donate generously.
