Charsadda boy dies of Congo fever

CHARSADDA: A teenage boy from Dhaki Sahib Gul Mohallah of Charsadda district died of Congo virus in a hospital in Peshawar on Friday.

Zewar Shah, uncle of deceased Adnan, 17, told mediapersons here that his nephew, a grade 10th student, fell ill and was admitted to Tangi hospital.

From there he was referred to rural health centre, Jamalabad, Harichand, where his hepatitis test result came positive, he said.

Afterwards, he was shifted to a hospital in Peshawar where he remained under treatment for 12 days, his uncle said, adding the doctors sent his test to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, Lahore.

But, during this duration Congo virus was detected in his body after a test, he said and added that he breathed his last at the hospital on Friday.

The news of his death created panic and fear among the local people who demanded the health authorities to send medical teams to the area.
