ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed death sentence awarded to 11 hardcore terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

All the convicts belonged to outlawed terrorist outfits and were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, including attacks on armed forces, law enforcement agencies, destruction of an educational institution and killing of innocent civilians.

They were responsible for the killing of 69 people — 49 civilians and 20 armed forces personnel ­— besides injuring 148 others.

Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. A special military court had awarded death sentence to these convicts, the ISPR statement added.

The court also awarded imprisonment to four convicts.

According to details of the convicts released by ISPR, Ain Ullah, son of Bashar Khan, was a member of a proscribed organisation and he had abetted terrorist commander Jamshed by designing and preparing a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device for a terrorist attack at Suikarno Chowk, Khyber Bazaar, Peshawar. The blast left 48 people dead and 109 others injured.

The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death penalty.

Naik Wali, son of Gul Mir Khan, was a member of a proscribed organisation and he was involved in an attack on armed forces and LEA personnel, as well as in the killing of Lieutenant Umar Javed, Subedar Mohammad Mohsin, Havaldar Amir Mohammad, along with three other soldiers, and causing injuries to 14 others.

The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.

Fazal Manan, son of Abdul Khanan, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He abetted terrorist Shina Fiaz Ullah, a suicide bomber, to attack Saddar Police Station, Kohat. Constables Khurshid Ahmed, Mohammad Noor and Fayazul Husnain lost their lives in the suicide bombing and five others were injured. The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.

Rehmat Zada, son of Saifur Rehman, was a member of a proscribed organisation and was involved in attacks on armed forces and LEAs which left Havaldar Musaver Khan, Sepoy Sohail Iqbal and Constable Fazal Malik dead and two others injured.

He was also found in possession of firearms. The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.

Zaid Muhammad, son of Yousaf Hussain, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in an attack on personnel of the armed forces which left Havaldar Mohammad Yar and two soldiers dead.

Naimatullah, son of Atta Ullah, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was held responsible for an attack on the armed forces, leaving Sepoy Mohammad Rafique dead and causing injuries to Major Mohammad Akmal Hayat and nine other soldiers.

Maseen Zada, son of Noor Farrest, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in the destruction of the Rubicon College, Gulibagh (Swat), and attacks on the armed forces. He was held responsible for the death of Sepoy Asif Mehmood and injuries to Major Abdul Qayyum and two soldiers.

He was also found in possession of firearms and explosives. The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.

Muhammad Rehman, son of Abdul Rahim, was a member of a proscribed organisation and he was involved in an attack on law-enforcement personnel, killing Constable Mushtaq Ahmed and injuring two other policemen and a civilian.

The convict confessed to his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.

Azmat Ullah, son of Suleman, was a member of a proscribed organisation and he was involved in an attack on personnel of the armed forces and held responsible for the death of Sepoy Asal Jan and injuries to another soldier.

Muhammad Raqeem, son of Fazal Janan, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was held responsible for an attack on members of law enforcement agencies which left Constable Manzoor Khan dead and another policeman injured.

Ikram Khan, son of Khan Zada, was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in the killing of a civilian, Abdul Rehman, a member of a village defence committee. The convict confessed to his offence before a judicial magistrate and the trial court and was awarded the death sentence.
