Polio team thrashed in Dadu village

DADU: A group of armed men attacked a polio vaccinators’ team, robbed them of cash and snatched away vaccines and boxes in Tilt area of Kachho, 90 kilometres from here on Saturday.

Hamid Ali Rustamani, a team leader, told journalists at local press club that seven armed men had attacked polio workers, beat them up, looted Rs2,500, vaccines, drops and boxes and also took away the four camels they were travelling on to administer polio drops to children in the area.

He said the team had returned without administering the drops to 80 children of the area. He reported at Salari police station but the SHO was not ready to take action against the robbers. He then reported the matter to senior health officials of Dadu, deputy commissioner and SSP Dadu, he said.

District Health Officer Dr Zahid Hussain Dawach said that inquiry had been ordered on Rustamani’s complaint. It was always ensured that all polio teams were provided tight security, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Manzoor Chandio directed SSP Tanvir Ahmed Chandio to conduct inquiry into the incident and report to him.

SSP Tanvir Ahmed Tunio reported to DC Tariq Manzoor Chandio that an old matrimonial dispute was going on between Rustamani and his relatives hence he wanted to lodge a ‘fake’ FIR against his relatives. He said that the incident did not happen.
