KARACHI: Indian poet passes away

KARACHI, Jan 10: Raza Naqvi, a distinguished poet of India, died at Patna after a prolonged illness. He was 90.

A recipient of many awards — the highest being the Ghalib Award — Raza Naqvi had authored and compiled eight books on various genres of Urdu literature. Besides expressing himself on serious aspects of literary trends, his especial contribution was in the realm of satirical poetry. For this branch of poetry, he had assumed the pen-name of “Wahi”. A collection of his satirical and humorous poems titled ‘Wahiyat’ is among his most popular books.
