CJP takes notice of cop’s torture by lawyers

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday took notice of an incident in which some lawyers had subjected a police officer to beating on the district and sessions court premises here.

The CJP issued notices to Inspector General of Punjab Mohammad Tahir to appear before the court and submit an investigation report on the matter on Oct 13. He also issued notices to Pakistan Bar Council vice chairman Ahsan Bhoon and the president and general secretary of the Lahore District Bar Association.

The CJP took notice of the incident in which a group of 15 lawyers led by advocates Saif Khokhar, Nabeel Haider and Mustafa Khokhar had attacked ASI Samar Riaz Khan in the district and sessions court when he went to submit record on Thursday.

The Islampura police station registered a case under terrorism charges against the lawyers for torturing, detaining and injuring the policeman.

The ASI said that the lawyers had thrashed, tortured and criminally intimidated him.

He said that the lawyers had also torn off his uniform and kept him in illegal custody in a room. He alleged that the lawyers had also threatened to kill him if he took legal action against them.

City Division SP investigation Naveed Irshad said that police were investigating the case, but the lawyers did not appear before the investigating officer.

Meanwhile, CJP Nisar also took notice of the operation of Grey Telecommunication Traffic in the country and fixed the matter for hearing in Islamabad on Monday (today).

The court issued notices to the attorney general, PTA chairman, interior secretary and DGs of FIA and Intelligence Bureau.

The CJP took notice of illegal Grey Telecommunication Traffic which causes financial losses to the national kitty and poses potential threat to the national security.
