Huawei Mate 20 Pro leaks indicate 4,200 mAh battery, super fast charging

Days before the launch of Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro in London, quite a few leaks around the device have given us an idea of what we can expect to see in Huawei’s upcoming flagship phone. Although, Huawei hasn’t confirmed any of these details, a lot of the leaks complement each other and paint a picture of what’s coming up.

Here’s a look at some of these leaks and rumours and what they tell us about the phone.

Display

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro will have a 6.39-inch 1440 x 3120 OLED display. Its sides will be slightly curved and it will have a fingerprint scanner integrated into the lower area behind the actual screen. As for the phone's earpiece, the tech rumour mill says that that can be found right at the top.

Cameras

Tech writer Roland Quandt says the Mate 20 Pro has a 24MP front camera and a Vertical Surface Emitting Laser (VSEL) module to enable facial recognition via infrared laser technology. He adds that Mate 20 Pro’s VSEL mechanism is comparable to Apple’s facial identification system, enable unlocking the device through facial recognition.

As for the main or back camera, he says it consists of a 40MP f/1.8 lens and there is also said to be a 20MP f/2.4 telephoto lens and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle one. Quandt’s leaks indicate that the camera allows for both 5x optical zoom as well as macro shots from as close as 2.5cm.

Furthermore, the camera is reportedly equipped with two neural processing units (NPUs) whose function it is to optimise the settings depending on what subject one is shooting and under which conditions one is trying to shoot it.

Operating system

The Mate 20 Pro will reportedly have the new Android 9.0 Pie in conjunction with Huawei's own interface EMUI 9.0 as the operating system.

Apparently, it will be easier and faster to work with compared to the EMUI 8, making it more efficient to work through the device’s various settings.

Aside from these, this phone is also expected have navigation via gesture control, similar to some of the Pixel phones out there.

Colours

The phone will reportedly come in four colours, including black, blue, green and “twilight” shades.

Chipset

The Mate 20 Pro will have Huawei's new octa-core Kirin 980, which runs at up to 2.6GHz. Furthermore, the device is said to be paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, although that may depend on what country you may be buying the phone in as well as on the version of the phone you go for.As for storage, the Mate 20 Pro is expected to come with varying options, such as 128GB, 256GB or 512GB.

Leaks also indicate that the phone has no microSD card slot. However, there will be support for 'Nano Memory Cards', which will likely be produced and sold by Huawei and will have storage capacity of up to 256GB.

Battery

As for the phone’s battery, leaks suggest that the Mate 20 Pro will have a 4,200mAh battery. It also apparently charges quite fast and in a matter of 30 minute, can charge to 70 per cent of its capacity.

Reports also indicate that the Mate 20 Pro can act as a wireless charger for other devices, including other phones.

The Mate 20 Pro is said to be water-resistant and can be submerged in water up to 1.5 metres deep and for up to 30 minutes. It is also designed to resist dust.

Price

The phone, which will have a global launch in London on October 16, is expected to come to Pakistan in November. And no, it's not likely to be so inexpensive, with indications that the starting price may be over PKR100,000.
