Two held for assaulting transgender persons in Kohat
KOHAT: The police on Monday arrested two persons for allegedly assaulting transgender individuals at a hujra in Muhammadzai here.
Officials at the city police said transgender individual Malal reported that they were returning to their residence from Lachi after a wedding programme when a car stopped their van at Jhandi Sattian. Two men came out and picked him and his friend, Natasha, and took them to Muhammadzai.
He said the accused, Naeem of Muahmmadzai and Abid of Mohallah Mian Bad Shah, then assaulted them.
SHO city Mohammad Ali conducted raids and arrested both the accused.
Meanwhile, the Mehmoodabad police arrested two persons wanted in a murder case from a house in Malagabad area.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house and held Mohammad Hayat and Zulfiqar Shah who had been hiding there for last two years. They had killed a 16-year-old boy and had been declared as absconders by the court.
RULERS CRITICISED: The Qaumi Watan Party has criticised the government for increasing the problems of people by raising prices of electricity, gas and petroleum against its promises made before the general elections.
The concern was expressed at a meeting on Monday. The participants said the government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was putting extra burden on the people by seeking loans from the IMF. They said the incumbent government was blaming the previous governments for the mess, but it had nothing concrete in its policies to benefit the people.
The participants also discussed to celebrate the founding day of the party on Oct 28. They said unlike other parties the QWP had launched mass contact meetings and a large number of people would take part in the event.
WHITE CANE DAY: District nazim Naseem Afridi, while speaking at a sports gala held to mark the White Cane Day, stressed that the children deprived of eyesight deserved special attention of the people and the government to make them useful citizens.
He said philanthropists should come forward and help and encourage special children studying at educational institutions. Different games were held among the children at district sports complex. The district nazim said such positive activities should be held regularly so the special children could feel like normal people.
Later, Mr Afridi and the district sports officer distributed cash and trophies among the children.
