PTI govt to complete construction of Dasu dam by 2022, says Faisal Vawda

Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on Monday said that the PTI-led government will carry out efforts to complete the Dasu dam project by the year 2022.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, the minister said that an important meeting to discuss the run of the river project will be held in Peshawar on November 6, 2018.

Vawda mentioned that the country was facing losses worth billions of rupees due to the delay in construction of water reservoirs in the country, Radio Pakistan reported.

The minister said that he has directed the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to take steps on war footing basis to address the water-related issues.

“The government is committed to addressing the water woes of Sindh in general and Karachi in particular,” the minister said.

Dawn earlier reported that Wapda has acquired 740 of around 2,000 acres required to it on a top priority. Since there is no road access to land previously, Wapda got constructed the road to access the land.

The project being constructed on River Indus 7km upstream of Dasu Town in Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), is a vital development project not only for the country but also for KP, as it will stabilise the economy of Pakistan by providing low-cost hydel electricity besides triggering a new era of socio-economic development in the far-flung areas of the province.
