Two filling stations demolished

GUJRANWALA: The district administration on Monday demolished two filling stations under the ongoing anti-encroachment operation in Wazirabad.

Deputy Commissioner Shoaib Tariq Warraich told Dawn the filling stations were demolished during the operation against illegal encroachments on Wazirabad GT Road and cleared the land.

Meanwhile, a protest was held against the mini-petrol pumps established in various villages along roads in the area of Gujranwala.

Such petrol pumps are functioning at Tatlayaali, Kamoki Road, Noshehra Road, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura Road, Lunj Kalan, Mari Khurd, Maraliwala, Bhakranwali, Ghumanwala, Kot Nisar Shah, Majn Chak, Baigpur and other villages.

The protesters told Dawn the owners had set up mini-petrol pumps in residential areas illegally. They said the filling station owners had buried oil tanks underground that could cause any accident while they were selling low quality petrol at high prices.

ARRESTED: The FIA arrested two proclaimed human smugglers in Gujranwala.

FIA Assistant Director Malik Nasir Majeed told Dawn SHO Waseem Dar arrested Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of Azad Kashmir, and Kashif of Chanda Qila, Gujranwala, from their hideout. He said the accused were wanted to FIA for the last five years.

He said that the suspects were involved in sending 10 people to South Africa illegally. During investigation, they confessed that they had Rs500,000 from each person to send him to South Africa.

BRIBE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a Ziladar while taking bribe from a farmer.

According to reports, one Khalid Hussain submitted an application with ACE regional director Farid Ahmad alleged he was a landlord and watering his crops legally but Ziladar Amanullah Butt was blackmailing him, accusing him of stealing the canal water.

He informed the ACE that the official was demanding Rs10,000 from him for not registering an FIR against him.

The ACE in presence of the magistrate arrested Amanullah when he was taking bribe.
