PM reviews progress to convert PM House into university

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday chaired a meeting to monitor the progress on converting the Prime Minister House into university and directed to constitute a committee, headed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman, to review the draft charter of the proposed university, Radio Pakistan reported.

The meeting, held in the federal capital, was attended by Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, HEC Chairman Tariq Banuri and other officials of the commission.

It also approved constitution of separate committees for evaluation of the draft charter for the university and selection of its vice-chancellor. The minister concerned for education would head the search committee for the selection of vice-chancellor.

The meeting decided that the HEC chairman would head a committee tasked with the operational affairs and design of the university.

A conference titled 'Emerging Challenges for Pakistan and the Region' will be held at the new educational institution in December this year.

The meeting also approved the establishment of the Institute of Advanced Studies in the first phase of the university.
