TOBA TEK SINGH: A 15-month old lioness died at the Kamalia wildlife park on Thursday after three-month struggle against rabies.

District Wildlife Officer Syed Baqar Hussain said the lioness had been quarantined after she was diagnosed with rabies. It was first treated for bacterial diseases and finally administered anti-rabies treatment. He said anti-rabies vaccine had been given to the five lions kept in a compound.

He said three staffers of the wildlife park had reported fever due to which they would be examined to make sure they have not been infected from the lioness.

PROTEST: Scores of residents of areas along Faisalabad Road at Gojra on Thursday protested against delay in provision of gas connections.

The protesters belonging to Tufail Colony, Hassnain Park and Hazara Colony told reporters that the SNGPL contractor laid pipelines but then disappeared without completing the job. They said the streets remained clogged with dirty water.

They demanded that the authorities ensure early completion of the project.
