Army win women’s football in shootout
LAHORE: Army defeated Wapda 3-0 on penalties to clinch the National Women’s Football Championship at the Punjab Stadium here on Thursday.
After the final ended in a 1-1 stalemate, the winners were decided on penalty-kick. While Army converted three of the five penalties, Wapda failed to score.
Meanwhile, during the regulation time, Army broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Khadija scored. But within span of just three minutes, Wapda equalised through Joyomn as the first half ended at with both teams all squared.
The second half was barren before Army showed better skills in the shootout.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar was the chief guest. He awarded cash prize of Rs300,000 to Army and Rs200,000 to Wapda.
Best player of the event was Khadija of Army while Masooma Chaudhry of Model Town Academy was declared the best scorer. Both received Rs40,000 each.
Mahpara of Wapda was declared the best goalkeeper and honoured with a cash prize of Rs30,000.
