Mortar shell found near seminary in Swabi

SWABI: A mortar shell was found here on Monday near a government school and a religious seminary.

The mortar shell was found close to higher secondary school and Madressah Ahya-ul-Quran, Maneri Payyan. Thousands of students are getting education in the school and seminary.

Sources said that some children were fishing in the Maneri Badri Nullah when they noticed the mortar shell and informed the locals. The local people informed the district police.

SHO Qamar Zaman said that police and bomb disposal squad took the mortar shell in their possession and investigations were underway to know as to how it reached there and who was responsible for it.

The issue created fear among the local people and students.

Meanwhile, police arrested on Monday an alleged thief, blamed for looting a home in Bamkhel village a day ago, said officials.

The arrested man identified as Salman Khan belongs to Gumbat area in Mardan. He told police during investigations that he had noticed that the owner of the house left to meet his relatives so he entered the house and collected laptops, cash and other items.

Meanwhile, Rashid Mehmood, a driver belonging to Badhber area in Peshawar, was killed when a dumper collided with his van on Swabi-Mardan Road on Monday.

The driver of the dumper managed to escape after the incident. Police registered an FIR against the driver of the dumper and started investigations.
