Aasia Bibi case

THE Supreme Court verdict in the Aasia Bibi case is just and lawful. The reasoning that it differs from the earlier judgment of the two lower courts is no argument.

Those who have a familiarity with the court system know that this happens all the time, and that the judgments of the lower courts are often reversed.

One feels sorry about the interruption in the lives of so many citizens because of the street protests.

Those who are protesting need to channel their energies into less disruptive ways. Our religion teaches us to be more caring and humane.

One wishes we had a proactive law enforcement apparatus to discourage the taking of the law in the hands by individuals so often.

THIS is the right time for the state to take concrete steps to check the rising tide of extremism and bigotry sponsored by a minority group.

This country cannot and should not tolerate violent acts by the workers of an extremist party and the hate speeches by its leadership.

There should be a joint sitting of parliament to condemn the acts of these religious bigots by passing a resolution. The Election Commission of Pakistan should cancel the registration of this party.

There should be FIRs lodged against the leadership of this party for causing material damages and human losses.

Only in this manner can we discourage and put an end to violent politics.

This is the time to strengthen democracy, uproot religious extremism and take Pakistan forward.
