Senate body to be briefed on child abuse

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights will brief a Senate committee on an action plan for ending child abuse on Nov 6.

The Senate special committee on the issue of increasing incidents of child abuse during its meeting on October 16 had showed dissatisfaction over lack of a mechanism to have an official database about incidents of child sexual abuse.

The committee’s chairperson, Nuzhat Sadiq, had directed the human rights ministry to formulate a line of action and brief it on the issue during its next meeting.

A ministry official, Hassan Mangi, said the government had to depend on the data collected by non-governmental organisations. According to a report, 3,445 cases of child abuse were reported last year, he said.
