PCB dismisses allegations levelled against Ehsan Mani by Najam Sethi

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday responded to the legal notice sent by former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, and “categorically dismissed” the allegations levelled by Sethi against incumbent PCB chief Ehsan Mani.

“In response to the legal notice, all the allegations have been categorically dismissed,” the PCB spokesperson said, adding that the board “reserves all its rights in the matter”.

Last month, Sethi had served a legal notice on his successor Mani for giving wrong figures in different accounts in a chart uploaded on the PCB website, which refers to the expenses and benefits of the ex-PCB chairmen, and had asked him to tender an apology or face a defamation case.

The legal notice, served under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance 2002, was addressed directly to Mani.

Sethi, through his counsel, denied ever receiving "an amount or Rs14,181,570 as PSL Allowance", while countering with an allegation of his own that Mani has been provided a furnished apartment by the board — which, he implies, negates the current PCB chair's claim that he is not getting and accommodation allowance.

The PCB's figures, according to the notice, mentioned a number of expenses but failed to add that "every single one of these allowances/payments were duly authorised and approved by the PCB's Board of Governors".

In the notice served on Mani, Sethi’s lawyer has also alleged that the PCB has done it at the behest of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been Sethi’s fierce critic since 2013.
