Heatwave proves fatal for more in Sahiwal

SAHIWAL, June 21: Five more people died of heat on Tuesday raising the two-day death toll to 25. Those died on Tuesday included Rashid Ahmad, 60, of Wapda Colony, Ferozedin of Karachi, 60, Waziran, 60, of city, Rashidan, 40, of Kot Khadim Ali Shah and Haji Yaqoob of Mauza Tibbi. Yaqoob. They were brought to hospital unconscious on Monday.

Meanwhile, gastroenteritis death toll rose to 10 when Riaz died in hospital on Tuesday.

DHQ hospital sources said it treated 75 patients but still six were being treated in medical ward and 15 in the children ward.

Patients have advised to purchase medicine from bazaars as hospital ran out of stock.

SIALKOT: The whole district remained in the grip of heat as mercury rose to 45.4 degrees Celsius.

The city wore a deserted look as Tuesday was the hottest day of the current summer season. Same was the situation in Narowal district.

The suspension of electricity supply for several hours in both the districts added to the woes of the people.

According to health department, the officials of special teams administering anti-polio drops to the children faced great difficulties due to hot weather.

Meanwhile, the Met office forecast persistence of hot weather for three days.
