Website review: Time for a good read!

Time for Kids, as the name suggests, is one of the best reading resources available on the internet for kids, tweens and teens. It is from the publishers of the popular Time magazine.

Whether you are browsing for academic purposes or for general reading, the website offers loads from interesting articles to news, photos and videos.

You can start right from the homepage by first choosing the categories grade-wise such as K-1, 2, 3-4 and 5-6. Clicking any of them opens a new page, showing you sections like “Science”, “Animals”, “Community”, “Health”, “World”, “Business”, “Environment”, “Arts” and a lot more, all having news and articles according to the grade level you chose.

For instance, if you open K-1, you will find articles like Explore the moon in Science, Animal homes in Animals, Ways to give in Community or Travel back in time in World.

And if you open grade 2, the article will change accordingly, such as Moon mission in Science, Turning green in World and others in the same way.

One of the categories, “Business” also needs to be addressed here; if you think this section caters to the older generation only, then you are wrong. As mentioned above, all sections focus on the age and grade of children, and that is also the case with business. I was amazed to read about the Crayola factory, its stats and how the production is done.

Apart from that, in the same section you can read articles on how to save money and how to utilise it in a better way.

The overall language of the articles is kept very simple, direct and unbiased, easy for even little kids to grasp the information quickly.

Moreover, the interface is very colourful and without any ads.

The website is a valuable resource for you to develop social and political awareness, and expend the horizons of your knowledge in various fields of life. According to the site, the magazine and the site “build informational-reading skills, helping students to better understand the complex world and become informed and active citizens.”

With its news and articles, www.timeforkids.com will inspire you to pursue authentic journalism.
