The joy of understanding

Pleasure means happiness and peace of mind. It means everything that gives peace and touches the heart. Pleasure is necessary for a happy life.

Life without pleasures is just like a desert. Pleasure can change our life by refreshing our mind and creating good and powerful thoughts.

Pleasure varies from person to person. Poor people have simple pleasures, but they enjoy a lot and the rich have a lot of pleasures, but they ignore them because they have no time.

We should enjoy life by feeling and celebrating it. Think big, but relish small pleasures.

Discovering humanities and social sciences

It was such a pleasant surprise to read the article “Discovering humanities and social sciences” by Ambreen Arshad, (YW, November 3, 2018). Finally I came across an article that talks about subjects that many students are now taking up and which are now offered in a very specialised way by various reputed universities.

Earlier I remember, anyone who said they were doing bachelors in arts, or wasn’t studying to become a doctor or engineer, they were considered the unintelligent ones who had no career prospects. Thankfully things have changed now, so many subjects that fall under the social sciences group have now been updated and are part of the course of various disciplines that lead to so many promising career paths.

I would request the writer to come up with more such career-oriented articles that can be a help to students.

It’s time to act

This is with reference to the article “It’s time to act”, by Romaesa Zahrah, published on November 10, 2018, in this magazine.

I totally agree with the writer that it is time we do something meaningful to stop climate change from making our dear planet totally unfit for us to live.

Pollution, and misuse and mismanagement of the world’s resources are bringing about changes in the environment at an unprecedented level.

At any point in time now, there is a hurricane raining havoc somewhere, or a wildfire burning down everything or drought ruining crops and making people miserable.

Earlier people talked of taking care of the environment so that the future generations do not suffer. Now we need to act so that our own generation can survive and thrive, and not become extinct like the dinosaurs.
