Erdogan hospital waiting for funds for five months

MUZAFFARGARH: The Recep Tayyip Erdogan hospital is waiting for funds from the Punjab government withheld since July last.

Up to 800 patients visit its OPD daily while 120 patients are admitted and discharged on a daily basis, says Medical Superintendent Dr Mohammad Irfan. He said the hospital was running under the Indus administration which got the funds from the government.

Sources said that Punjab government was showing lack of interest and was not allowing the administration to fill vacant seats of doctors and paramedics. The hospital owes millions of rupees to the Agha Khan labs and Chughtai Laboratories.

The hospital was built by the cooperation of the Turkish government during the 2010 floods. A doctor said some patients had to wait for treatment for six months because of the rush and lack of resources.

Deputy Commissioner Ehtasham Anwar said he had been posted here recently and was not aware of its affairs.

Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid who paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Sunday promised to look into the matter.
