MQM-P MPA Wajahat dies

KARACHI: Mohammad Wajahat, a member of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, died after a brief illness here on Tuesday.

His party said he was diagnosed with cancer following the July 25 general elections. He was in his early forties.

The funeral prayers were offered at a local mosque. He was buried in the Chakra Goth graveyard in Korangi No. 1 in the evening.

A large number of people, workers and office-bearers of the MQM-P, including senior leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel and Khwaja Izharul Hasan, attended his funeral.

He has left behind a widow, three daughters and a son.

The MPA was elected from PS-94, a provincial assembly constituency in Korangi district, in the 2018 general elections.

A party spokesperson said that he worked at a private firm as its area sales manager. He was a resident of Landhi.

He had been associated with the party since mid-90s. Before becoming an MPA, he was the “joint in-charge” of Korangi town of the MQM-P’s organisational structure.

MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed his grief over the demise of the party lawmaker and said that the party lost an “honest and courageous worker today”.
