Helmets made mandatory on The Mall, Peshawar Road

RAWALPINDI: Wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle on The Mall and Peshawar Road will be compulsory starting Dec 1.

Joint squads of traffic wardens and the district police have been formed to keep a check on motorcyclists,

The special squads will be deployed at entry and exit points on Peshawar Road and The Mall.

A spokesperson for the City Traffic Police (CTP) said the motorcyclists who are found violating the law will be fined for the first offence and arrested if caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet on The Mall second time.

He said that the district administration has also made helmets necessary if motorcyclists want to fill their vehicles with fuel at petrol stations. Banners saying motorcyclists will not be given fuel without a safety helmet have been put up for public awareness.

The spokesperson said that following CTP recommendations, the district administration had imposed the ban on motorcycle riding without helmets on Peshawar Road and The Mall which will be implemented on Saturday. Pillion riders will also be required to wear helmets.
