Early completion of water project for Murree ordered

RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Jodat Ayaz on Monday directed the authorities concerned to make efforts to complete the project of supplying water from Jhelum River to Murree within the shortest possible time.

This is imperative to address the scarcity of water in the area, he said while chairing a meeting here.

The commissioner said 2.61 million gallons per day (mgd) of water was the average demand of Murree in 2015 while the city was being supplied 1.32 mgd.

The demand would increase to 3.13 mgd by 2020, he said.

It would help overcome water shortage by ensuring the supply of 5.5 mgd to Murree and other areas, he said.

The commissioner was briefed about physical and financial progress on the project and informed that 80pc earth and protection work on the intake structure and water treatment plant had been completed.
