HARIPUR: The authorities on Monday demolished several houses and boundary walls constructed on governmentland unlawfully in Kahka and Dobandi villages.
Additional deputy commissioner Baidullah Shah led the operation while heavy contingents of police, TMA and district council staff consisted of the anti-encroachment squad.
Mr Shah said owners of adjacent land had illegally encroached upon the land along the Chapar and Dobandi roads by constructing over a dozen houses, while several others had constructed boundary walls on the states land.
He said after demarcation by the revenue staff the encroachers were issued notices for voluntary demolition of structures, but they continued defying the ban, forcing the administration to use heavy machinery to raze the illegal houses and boundary walls. He said 1,360 square feet of land was retrieved from the encroachers.
He said demarcation of encroached land of tehsil municipal administration and district council in the main bazaar, and the roads and thoroughfares in the peripheries had been completed and the encroachers were being served with notices.
