SWABI: Water shortage in Swabi

SWABI, Jan 11: The continuing dry spell has affected wheat and other crops in the rain-fed and irrigated areas of Swabi district.

The growers of Miani, Maneri, Kernal Sher Khan Kalli, Salim Khan, Chhota Lahor, Bamkhel, Murghuz, Topi, Yar Hussain, Dobian, Janda and a number of other areas told Dawn that they faced acute shortage of irrigation as well as drinking water due to the long dry spell.

They said the dry weather had also given rise to many diseases in the district. They demanded of the authorities concerned to carry out an early canal desilting exercise in the area so that the vegetable farms and other standing crops could be saved from destruction.
