Police post sought in remote Kohat area

KOHAT: The members of public liaison committee have urged the district police officer to establish a checkpost on remote Kohat-Nowshera highway for road safety and increase patrolling to control robberies in the area.

They were speaking at an open forum held by police in far-flung Shadipur area on Friday.

Local body members, elders, members of public liaison committee and police officials attended the forum.

The local people also demanded establishment of peace committees at mohallah level because the vast area in the jurisdiction of Gumbat police station could not be handled by one police station.

They said that in case of a crime or accident the police arrived at the scene taking hours and then the patients had to be taken to Kohat which was 35 kilometers from Shadipur.

The forum was held by ASP Mohammad Nabeel on the directives of DPO Wahid Mehmood.

The forum participants also demanded effective control on firing in the air on the occasion of weddings.

The ASP assured them that their individual and collective problems would be taken up with the concerned departments.

GOVT CRITICISED: Awami National Party leader and district councilor Dr Zulfiqar Shah has said that Mohmand Dam and BRT projects have exposed the hollow slogans of upholding merit and transparency by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that Momand Dam project had been given to the son of a federal adviser which was the worst example of nepotism whereas the government was not ready to conduct an inquiry into the issue.

Mr Shah added that the BRT project had been awarded to a blacklisted company.

He demanded that open inquiry should be held by NAB in both the projects.
