SHC expresses concern with pending ‘A-class’ cases

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday expressed concern over an incomplete police report regarding cases under ‘A-class’, and directed the provincial police officer to file complete details about such cases pending across the province by Feb 6.

The SHC directed the DIG police establishment to be in attendance at the next hearing along with a complete report about the strength of police officers in the investigation section in Karachi as well as the rest of the province.

A single SHC bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar also sought report from the prosecutor general (PG) regarding ‘A-class’ cases and called for a compliance report from the IG in respect of establishing special cells for the arrest of absconders as directed in a 2016 SHC judgement (Nasrullah verses SHO). The A-class reports pertain to those cases in which accused persons are unknown or untraceable.
