Transgender person killed in attack

KARAK: A transgender was killed, while his two colleagues sustained serious injuries when some accused opened fire on them after a music concert in Jatta Ismailkhel area of Banda Daud Shah on Tuesday night.

Police said three transgender persons identified as Jehangir of Mansehra, Mushtaq of Peshawar, and Arshad of Swabi, were travelling back to Kohat in a passenger coach after attending the concert when they came under attack. As a result, the three transgender individuals received injuries. One of them, Jehangir, succumbed before getting any medical treatment.

The injured persons and the body were shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Banda Daud Shah, and later the injured were referred to a hospital in Kohat.

According to police, the injured transgender, Arshad, nominated Hamdan, who had organised the concert, and his two unknown accomplices in the case.

The police arrested Hamdan, while his accomplices were still at large. The police also impounded the vehicle in which the transgender persons were travelling. The arrested man was shifted to an unspecified location for interrogation.

Meanwhile, Taimor Kamal, a representative of Trans Action, told Dawn that the body was dispatched to Mansehra and handed over to family for burial.

He said 63 transgender persons had been killed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015. However, none of the killers was convicted so far.
