‘Selective’ load-shedding in Swabi alleged

SWABI, June 3: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has adopted a different policy for each area in Swabi for its unscheduled load-shedding, inviting people’s anger.

In contrast, the distinguished officials in the district headquarters enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

People living in far-flung areas said on Sunday that whenever there was a power breakdown they did not know for how long their agony would last. They said it usually took hours.

The residents of the Maini area said the power supply frequently stopped both in the daytime and at night, creating numerous problems for them, especially exposing them to mosquito attack.

The residents of Gadoon Amazai said they had been badly hit by the Pesco policy and their complaints went without being heard.

In Topi, the people said whenever a drop of rain fell or a light wind blew, the power supply was bound to be switched off. In case of a storm, the people experienced power shutdown for hours.

The officials in the district headquarters, on the other hand, never experienced any load-shedding because they received electricity through a special supply line while ordinary people remained at the mercy of Pesco.

The people at Yar Hussian, Tordher, Tehsil Chota Lahor, Salim Khan, Shewa, Tarraki, Kernel Sher Kili, Marghuz and other areas have similar complaints against Pesco staff.

Whenever people approach officials to know about the cause of power breakdown, they are invariably given a trite answer: a fault developed and the supply will be restored after the fault is removed. They never told them the place where the ‘fault’ had developed, giving credence to people’s suspicion that it wasn’t the case.

Some localities have also been facing low voltage problem but officials seem to care not a whit.
