Poliovirus detected in Bannu child
BANNU: A polio case surfaced in Mirakhel area here on Friday after verification by the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.
According to the district Health officials, two-year-old Rehan suffered from fever on Jan 16 and his parents took him to a hospital where doctors recommended his stool test from NIH for confirmation of poliovirus.
The NIH in its report confirmed presence of poliovirus in the victim child who was immediately shifted to Peshawar for further treatment. This was the second polio case reported this year, while in 2018 some 10 cases were reported. The health officials said that parents of Rehan had refused to allow polio vaccination of the child.
