Ex-governor Gulistan Janjua passes away

ISLAMABAD: Retired Brigadier Amir Gulistan Janjua, a former governor of erstwhile North-West Frontier Pro­vi­nce, which was later rena­med as Khy­ber Pakhtun­khwa, died on Monday in Rawalpindi.

He was 95.

Mr Janjua was born in village Gohra Raj­gan, Choa Saiden Shah in Chakwal tehsil.

He served as governor from 1988 to 1993.

According to family sou­rces, Mr Janjua passed away due to natural causes at 8pm on Monday. He was admitted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardio­logy, Rawalpindi.

His Namaz-i-Janaza will be held at the Army Graveyard, Race Course Ground in Rawalpindi, at 4pm on Tuesday (today).

Mr Janjua also remai­n­­ed ambassador to the UAE, Sau­­­di Arabia and Nepal and served as the ambassador for 16 years.

He was awarded Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam and Tamgha-i-Pakistan. He was also awarded Nishan-i-Taj (Iran), Grand Order of Kokab (Jor­dan) and Dakshan Bahu (Nepal).
