Karachi official price list app for daily use items launched

KARACHI: Karachiites can now look up official prices of different commodities, including fruit, meat, vegetables, poultry and grocery online before buying them as the city administration has launched an android application — Karachi Price List — for the city.

The application was uploaded on Google’s Play Store and available for downloading.

Commissioner of Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani told Dawn that now citizens could also lodge their complaints against price hike through the application, which also has provisions of Urdu and Sindhi languages along with English.

He claimed that the city administration was vigilantly controlling prices across the city.

“All deputy commissioners have been asked to make effective measures to properly introduce the application among the masses so that citizens could benefit from it,” he added.

The commissioner said that the city administration officers were also asked to ensure that the price lists were displayed in shops and other outlets.

He said that immediate action would be taken on complaints lodged through the KPL application.

The commissioner also advised people to check the official prices of daily commodities before buying them.

He said that the prices of fruit, meat, vegetables, poultry, grocery and bakery items would be updated daily for the convenience of people using the app.

Mayor meets polio eradication team

Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Thursday that coordinated efforts could make the national policy on complete eradication of poliovirus in our country successful.

“The negative propaganda against polio eradication drive should be foiled by using all media resources,” he said.

The mayor said this while talking to a delegation from the National Emergency Action Plan for eradication of polio which called on him in his office.

He said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan would extend all possible help and support to deal with this very important issue.

The delegation members informed the mayor that no polio case was reported in Sindh this year owing to combined efforts made at the provincial level, however, the virus was still active in society due to which it was essential to continue the anti-polio campaign to protect children.

They said that so far four polio cases were reported in the country in the current year and the virus circulated from one part of the country to others, “therefore we need to make coordinated efforts to safeguard our new generations from this harmful disease”.

The mayor said that prominent citizens, media and others should play their role so that a positive message was delivered among masses regarding polio eradication campaign.

He said that the mayor’s office could be used for this purpose and if needed support would be provided in this regard.

The mayor said that he would himself administer polio vaccine in children along with polio workers.
