MUZAFFARABAD: Five more people were wounded in Azad Jammu and Kash­mir on Thursday as India and Pakistan continued to exchange gunfire across the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

The injuries occurred in Samahni sector, Bhimber district and Battal sector, Poonch district.

According to details provided by Bhimber Deputy Commissioner Sardar Khalid Mahmood, shelling began in Samahni early morning and kept occurring irregularly during the day.

One of the shells landed close to a house in Barroh village in Samahni injuring three women of a family living in that house. Mohammad Suleman was said to be the head of the family.

In the afternoon, shelling also began in Barnala sector in Bhimber district but there were no casualties in that area.

Two men, Younus and Shamim, were injured in Battal where shelling remained “intermittent and moderate”, according to Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Yusufzai.

So far there had not been any displacement of LoC residents in his jurisdiction, Yusufzai said.

The LoC in Tatta Pani and Nakyal sectors of Kotli district also witnessed sporadic exchange of gunfire but there were no casualties, said Raja Irfan Saleem, Superintendent of Police in Kotli.
