Victory in battlefield lost on diplomatic front, says Gilani

LAHORE: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani regrets that the battle won on the military front has been lost on the diplomatic front.

Talking to the media at the wedding of the daughter of former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf here on Sunday, he congratulated valiant PAF officers who gave a befitting response to the Indian aggression.

But, he regretted that the achievement gained in the battlefield was lost on the diplomatic front, a reference to the fact that the Indian aggression was neither condemned in the joint declaration of the OIC nor by China, US, UK, Saudi Arabia or any other friendly country.

Responding to a query, he said that he didn’t see the opposition and the government going together in near future.

He, however, said that both the opposition and the nation were standing with the government (on this issue) and it was up to the latter to move forward as the ball was in its court.

Also present at the wedding reception were former president Asif Ali Zardari, ex-National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Punjab Chief Secretary Yousaf Naseem, former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, ex-ministers Khursheed Kasuri, Manzoor Wattoo, Qamar Zaman Kaira, former Punjab governor Khalid Maqbool, Aitzaz Ahsan, Chaudhry Munir, and Maula Bakhsh Chandio.
