Wonder Craft: Yarn wristband

Wristbands and bracelets always look great whenever or with wherever you wear. They are worn as a gesture of friendship or as a fashion statement.

Today’s craft is also about a wristband made from yarn, which gives it a thick look. You can make it either from yarn or the embroidery floss, which is thin and shiny.

Things you need:

  1. Yarn (of four colours, three will be used in making the band while one will work as the base on which we will be wrapping the three strings of yarns)

  2. Scissors

  3. A large bead

Directions:

  1. Cut yarn strings about 36-inches in length, (for a six to seven-inch band), picture 2.

  2. Tape the top of the base string (white) on any flat surface, which could be a wall or a table in two-fold shape, picture 3.

  3. Put the three strings in upside down ‘U’ shape, under the base string as in picture 4.

  4. Take any string to be the first, make a cross; the left string will go to the right side and the right will come to the left side, pull both strings from under the remaining strings as in picture 5.

  5. Repeat the step by pulling the strings in opposite directions; picture 6.

  6. After repeating the steps for five or six times, you will notice a nice pattern being formed from one colour, picture 7.

  7. You can change the colour now, by leaving the colour you were using and switching to the other colour and repeating step 4; see pictures 8 and 9.

  8. When you reach the desired length, make a knot, picture 10.

  9. Cut the remaining yarns strings, leaving one to secure the band with a bead, picture 11.

  10. Insert bead and tie a couple of tight knots, as in picture 12.
