Smuggled cloth seized at Karkhano Market

PESHAWAR: The customs department on Thursday seized consignments of 50 tons of non-custom paid (NCP) cloth in a raid at Karkhano Market, Peshawar, and registered a case against those involved in the illegal business.

According to a statement, the cloth bundles were recovered from a warehouse in Palace Market. Peshawar police also accompanied the raiding party of customs department which shifted the consignments in seven trucks to the Customs House.

It was stated that price of the cloth consignments was up to Rs60 million in the local open market.

During another raid, one kilogramme of ice drug was recovered from one Jamshid of Swabi.

It was stated that the man was on way to Saudi Arabia when the customs officials recovered the drugs during checking at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar. The drugs were kept in a teapot.

It was stated that the accused had been charged under the relevant law and further investigations were underway.

Meanwhile, The Federal Investigation Agency’s Commercial Banks Circle on Thursday arrested an accused in benami accounts case associated with Rs9 billion illegal transactions.

A statement issued here identified the accused as Fazeel Khan who had been held in benami account case. It said that Fazeel Khan was beneficiary of 35 bank accounts held at various commercial banks.

“During inquiry, a raid was conducted by the FIA team on his residence situated at Mall Road, Peshawar, and bank receipts were recovered from his house,” it said.
