ISLAMABAD: Entry of heavy vehicles in the city will be banned on alternate days next week as part of security measures for the Pakistan Day Parade and its related events, sources told Dawn.

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) said that heavy traffic would not be allowed to enter in capital on March 17, 19, 21 and 23 from 12am to 2pm.

The heavy traffic heading towards the capital will be stopped before toll plazas, they added.

A total of 600 ITP personnel including a SP, two DSPs and 22 Inspectors will perform duties on roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic and avoid traffic congestion, they said.

Likewise, a number of roads will also be closed during the days on the same timing, the ITP said, adding that but the traffic would be diverted on alternative routes.

Faizabad will remain completely closed for all type of traffic during these days, the ITP said, adding that Expressway will also be closed from Khanna Bridge to Faizabad for small vehicles on March 17, 19, 21 and 23 from 5am to 2pm. But those vehicles having permission letter will be allowed to move ahead.

Likewise, Faisal Avenue will be closed from Zero Point to Faizabad and Murree Road to remain closed from Rawal Dam Chowk to Faizabad on these days, they said, adding only those people will be allowed to move on these roads having permission cards with them.

Invitation cards in different colours have been issued to guests coming to attend the parade which also have route, parking lot and sitting area information, the ITP said.
