A musical with Britney Spears’ songs
The catalogue of Britney Spears will serve as the musical backbone for a new fairy tale musical, it is reported. The musical comedy titled Once Upon A One More Time is set to open this fall in Chicago before moving to Broadway, and will feature over 20 of Britney Spears’ tracks as well as “a couple of deep album cuts” as well.
It will follow the exploits of a group of fairy tale princesses who come together for a book club meeting — only to have “a rogue fairy godmother” drop a copy of Betty Friedan’s 1963 feminist touchstone, The Feminine Mystique, in their laps.
In a statement about the musical, Spears commented, “I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore. This is a dream come true for me!”
The jukebox musical — whose title is clearly a riff on Spears’ 1998 hit “Baby One More Time” — was written by Jon Hartmere and will be directed by Kristin Hanggi.
Once Upon A One More Time will open on November 13 at James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago before heading to New York City.
