Nawaz’s mother, other family members see him in jail
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif, his niece Maryam Nawaz and mother met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the Kot Lakhpat jail here on Thursday.
A good number of PML-N workers chanted slogans in favour of their leaders on the arrival of the Sharif family members at the Kot Lakhpat jail where Nawaz Sharif is undergoing a seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Mills corruption case.
Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Begum Shamim Akhtar said: “My prayers are with my son and he will soon be released from jail.” She said the difficult time for Nawaz would be over soon.

After the meeting with her father, Maryam Nawaz tweeted: “Nawaz Sharif remains unwell with continuous angina. Today again during the meeting he had to use sublingual spray for the pain and breathlessness. Please remember him in your daily prayers. Thank you all.”
No other PML-N leader visited him after Maryam Nawaz said her father would not see visitors on Thursday (the day fixed for the convict to see visitors) because of his poor health.
On Wednesday, Mr Sharif recorded his statement before a five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the 2014 Model Town case. The new JIT, constituted by Usman Buzdar-led Punjab government, visited the former premier at Kot Lakhpat jail and quizzed him for about two hours.
Mr Sharif is facing allegations that the Model Town operation was launched at his and other PML-N stalwarts’ behest. Fourteen supporters of Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri were killed by the Punjab police in June 2014 during an anti-encroachment operation outside his residence.
