Four-day remand for suspect in woman’s torture case

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate at Model Town Courts on Thursday remanded a man and his employee in four-day police custody for their involvement in torturing the former’s wife and shaving her head off allegedly for refusing to dance before the friends of her husband.

The incident occurred on March 24, however, the Kahna police arrested the suspects on March 27 after a video complaint of Asma Aziz went viral on social media and news channels prompting the government’s machinery to come into action.

The woman alleged that her husband Mian Faisal would invite his friends to home and force her to dance to amuse them. On the day of the incident, she said, Faisal as usual forced her to perform dance when he invited his friends to home. However, she refused to fulfill the demand of her husband and he started beating her with a plastic pipe and then shaved her head off with the help of his employee Rashid Ali.

The woman had married Faisal four years ago and the husband, she said, turned hostile and started misbehaving with and torturing her over petty issues after six months of their marriage.

Police produced the suspects before judicial magistrate Shahid Zia and sought their physical remand for interrogation. The magistrate granted the police four-day remand of the suspects with direction to complete investigation.

BAIL: A sessions court on Thursday granted pre-arrest bail to Gullu Butt and three other workers of the PML-N in a case of stopping a train near Kot Lakhpat jail.

Police alleged that the workers had climbed a train and stopped it during a protest they held outside the jail on March 23.

PML-N Lawyers’ Forum Lahore president Rafaqat Dogar told court that the party workers had not stopped a train but an engine. He said police lodged the case on baseless grounds.

The court granted the bail to the workers till April 10 and directed them to submit surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
