Aladdin gives fans a glimpse of its ‘whole new world’ in a first full-length trailer.

Disney released new footage featuring Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as Genie.

The preview shows Aladdin become a prince after receiving three wishes from Genie. He meets Jasmine, the daughter of The Sultan (Navid Negahban), before taking on the sorcerer Jafar (Marwan Kenzari).

The trailer features a new version of the Aladdin song “A whole new world.” The beloved song from Alan Menken and Tim Rice plays as Aladdin and Jasmine are shown on their magic carpet ride.

Aladdin opens in theatres May 24.

Schools compete for Dr Seuss record

Elementary schools on opposite ends of the United States held competing events to break a Guinness World Record for dressing as Dr Seuss characters.

Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School in Santa Clarita, Calif., and Broadneck Elementary School in Arnold, Maryland, held events one day apart seeking to break the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Dr Seuss characters.

Both schools managed to unofficially break the record, with 890 people dressed as characters such as the Cat in the Hat and the Lorax at Broadneck Elementary and 1,063 similarly clad people being counted at the Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary event one day earlier.

The schools said they have applied to Guinness to have their records officially recognised.
