LAHORE: Competitions in several disciplines were held on the second day of the 72nd Punjab Games at different venues here on Thursday.
The team and individual events of badminton entered the final stage.
In the men’s singles semi-finals, Ahmer Jalal of Lahore and Muqeet Tahir of Sahiwal reached the final while Muteeb Sohail-Uaakeph (Rawalpindi) and Ahmar Jalal-Gohar Azam (Lahore) set the date for the doubles final. In the team event, Lahore and Sahiwal qualified for the final.
In the table tennis team event, Faisalabad earned gold medal after defeating Lahore in the final. Silver medal-winning Lahore were followed by Sahiwal and Multan both of whom were declared bronze winners. Rawalpindi came fifth followed by sixth-placed Sargodha.
In karate, Rawalpindi with 60 points dominated at Nishtar Park Sports Complex while Faisalabad and Gujranwala clinched next two spots with 40 and 22 points, respectively.
Meanwhile in weightlifting, Sharjeel Butt of Lahore were declared winners in the 55kg category. Gujranwala’s Haider Butt finished second and Abdul Raheem of Faisalabad third.
The 61kg title went to Lahore’s Muneeb while Gujranwala’s Saad Butt and Mohammad Aslam of Faisalabad seized second and third positions, respectively.
In 67kg, Mohammad Arslan of Lahore took the first position while second and third positions were claimed by Gujranwala’s Zeeshan Butt and Faisal Shahbaz of Faisalabad, respectively.
Lahore defeated Sargodha in the first archery semi-final while Faisalabad got the better of Bahawalpur in the second semi-final.
In kick-boxing, the Lahore team stood first with four gold and two bronze medals, Gujranwala remained runners-up with one gold and three bronze medals. Faisalabad finished third (three silver and one bronze).
The remaining positions went to DG Khan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Multan, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur.
