Farhan edges Danish to bag squash title
PESHAWAR: Experienced campaigner Farhan Mehboob clinched the National Senior Squash Championship title on Saturday defeating Danish Atlas in a marathon final here at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
The 30-year-old Farhan lost the first game to Danish 11-3.
Veteran Farhan, who reached his highest world ranking No.16 back in 2009, then staged a comeback against world No. 199 and unseeded Danish in the second game which the former won 11-9.
Left-hander Farhan, one of the most experienced players on Pakistan squash circuit with participation in World Team Championship, World Junior, Asian Junior, South Asian Games and Asian Senior Team Championship, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, continued to get better and bagged the third game 11-6.
In what turned out to be a thrilling decider, the 25-year-old Danish took the fourth game 11-7 to extend the battle to fifth game. However, Farhan used all his experience to overpower Danish winning the decisive game 11-9, and with it the title. The match lasted 59 minutes.
Air Commodore of the Northern Air Command Ch. Sarfaraz was the chief guest on this occasion who also witnessed the final. Pakistan coach Yasin Khan, members executive committee of the KP Squash Association Wazir Gul, Sher Bahadar Khan, Pakistan Squash Federation vice-president Qamar Zaman and PAF Squash Academy head coach Atlas Khan were also present on the occasion along with a significant number of spectators.
