Court seeks replies on PIA officer’s harassment complaint

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought replies from the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CEO and other authorities on a petition of a woman officer who accused special assistant to the CEO of sexual harassment.

The senior reservation ticketing officer filed the petition through her counsel Nabeel Javed Kahloon, alleging that the special assistant to the CEO had been pressuring her to fulfill his demands since she put a request for her transfer to the previous section where she had served for a long time.

The counsel submitted that the respondent used to sexually harass the petitioner whenever she contacted him to know the status of her transfer request. He also placed on record objectionable messages sent on WhatsApp of the petitioner by the respondent.

At one stage, the counsel said, the petitioner had to run out of the room of the respondent to save herself. The suspect later started hurling threats at the woman officer and warned her against filing any complaint against him.

He said the petitioner filed a complaint to the CEO against the respondent, however, no action had been taken so far. He asked court to order the PIA CEO to initiate departmental proceedings against the respondent.

Justice Shahid Mobeen heard the arguments and issued notices to the respondents for June 26.
