Senate panel to discuss hockey affairs

ISLAMABAD, July 17: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports to discuss the “continuous deterioration” of hockey is to be held at the Parliament House on July 22.

The meeting has been convened following a requisition put in Saturday by Senators Murad Ali Shah, Muhammad Enver Baig and Dr. Kauser Firdous.

Officials of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will brief the committee which is headed by Senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry on the affairs of the game with particular reference to the recent Junior World Cup.

Secretary of PHF, Brig. Musarratullah Khan will attend the meeting which also might see the presence of hockey chief Tariq Kirmani.

Another item on the agenda is PHF’s alleged facilitation of people not associated with the team in obtaining visas for European countries.

Also to be discussed are the reasons why the PHF has not responded to a questionnaire submitted by senators Murad and Enver during an earlier meeting.
