Haripur uplift, beautification to begin soon

HARIPUR: The uplift and beautification of Haripur district under a project will begin in July, said deputy commissioner Arifullah Awan.

“The government has approved Rs1 billion uplift and beautification project, which will be implemented in all three tehsils of the district, including Haripur, Khanpur and Ghazi, in two phases,” he told members of Haripur Union of Journalists here on Tuesday.

Assistant commissioner Arafat Mujtaba Bharwana was also present on the occasion.

The deputy commissioner said 54 small and large projects would be executed in the Rs700 million phase one, while Rs300 million was approved for the second phase. He said all three tehsil municipal administrations and communication and works departments would execute the projects.

Mr Awan said the projects were meant to improve the condition of parks, footpaths and media centre, develop greenbelts, repair roads, renovate intersections, manage traffic, improve conditions at bus terminals, install monuments and sculptures, fix faulty streetlights, put up signboards, relocate the roadside power poles, rehabilitate heritage buildings, develop tourist sites and food street, and build public lavatories.

PROBE BODY SET UP: A committee formed by district police officer Dr Zahidullah Jan on Tuesday began probe into the ‘mysterious’ death of a teenage boy. The committee headed by SP (investigation) Asif Gohar has been tasked with ascertaining the reason for the death of ninth grader Abdullah Masood from Serae Saleh area.

The police record shows Abdullah had died after suffering head injuries in a road accident on May 15 night. However, the family of the teenage boy insisted that the schoolchild was killed.

They wondered if Abdullah had died in a road accident, then why his motorcycle remained undamaged even after colliding with a tractor-trolley. The family claimed that the deceased was sexually harassed.
