RAWALPINDI: Police investigating the alleged involvement of its three officials in a sexual assault case have decided to conduct a polygraph test of the accused as well as the victim.

The victim is likely to record her statement with the judicial magistrate on Friday.

On the other hand, the four suspects, three police constables and a civilian, who are on five-day remand custody, will be produced before the court on Friday. The police are likely to request the court for extension in their remand.

Police will also collect forensic evidence from the car which was used by the accused persons and also send their clothes for forensic analysis.

The 21-year-old woman, who is associated with a call centre at Satellite Town, was allegedly raped when she along with her friend was having Sehri at Bahria Town Phase 8 in a car on May 156.

She informed the police that they were sitting in their car when a white car stopped nearby. Four people stepped out from the car and dragged the woman and her friend out of their car.

She alleged that the four men then dragged her into their car and drove away. They stopped the car along the roadside after reaching a deserted place and subjected her to sexual assault.

Later, the accused dropped her near her hostel at 4am and fled, she said, adding the accused also snatched Rs30,000 and a gold ring from her.

When a senior police officer was asked about the role of victim’s friend, he said police did not see any role of him because the victim had not accused him at any stage.

Meanwhile, Ab Aur Nahin, a civil society organisation, in a press statement expressed concerns over media reports about the sexual assault of the woman at gunpoint by constables of the Rawalpindi police.

“As lawyers, activists and most of all citizens of this country, they are shocked and outraged by this report. As heinous a crime as rape is, it is even more atrocious when committed by those who are entrusted with the duty to protect us,” it added.
