Meeting with Nawaz on Eid not allowed: Maryam

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had refused to allow her to meet her father Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail on Eidul Fitr day (Wednesday) and termed the refusal an inhuman act by a “cruel ruler”.

“Nawaz Sharif is facing fake and political cases. His health is deteriorating and what can be more cruel that his daughter is not allowed to see her father in jail. Those involved in politics of hatred and revenge should not forget that Allah Almighty changes time,” Ms Maryam said in a tweet.

Reacting to the Punjab government’s move, PML-N information secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb said the provincial government was not allowing Ms Maryam to meet her father in jail only to please (prime minister) Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the former prime minister’s personal physician Dr Adnan Khan said that Mr Sharif was unwell, asserting that his life was at risk.

“I met and examined Mr Sharif in jail on Tuesday and he felt unwell and was having difficulty in breathing. I requested the guards to open the cell door as Mr Sharif choked. It took a while for Mr Sharif to settle after using sublingual nitrate spray. His life is at risk. This is a warning,” Dr Khan said in a tweet.

PML-N senior vice president Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also expressed his concern over the health of Mr Sharif and said that consistent angina pain being suffered by Mr Sharif was an alarming sign and the government should take the matter seriously.
